“Our fellow citizens and their guests will enjoy sailing on the Juran and Sofia boats. We want to strengthen the local tourist offer, enrich it with the nearby Lonjsko Polje Nature Park, but also use the resources that nature provides to Sisak in a sustainable way. The rivers on which Sisak built its history have a special place here and which must not be neglected in its future.”, said Kristina Ikić Baniček, Mayor of Sisak. During the panoramic boat ride on the Juran and Sofia, tourists will be able to experience the historic core of Sisak and the nature that surrounds it in a different way. The ship Juran and Sofia, built in 2003, underwent a major overhaul last year to arrange and adapt to passenger transport, and from Saturday, June 27, it will again be available to tourists who will lead round trips around the Cup. Due to that, the fleet of the Lonjsko polje Nature Park is being strengthened. In addition to two surveillance boats for nature conservationists and Juran and Sofia, the fleet of the Lonjsko polje Nature Park also has the vessel Vodomar, four solar-powered boats and 10 canoes. The ship Juran and Sofia are sailing through the cup in Sisak again, a new tourist content with a panoramic view of Sisak. Information for travel agencies The ship Juran and Sofia will sail on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and public holidays with departures near Mali Kaptol at 11 and 13 o’clock (until October), and the voyage lasts an hour. Children up to 7 years of age ride for free, and for the elderly the ticket is 20 kuna. Those who buy a ticket for a boat ride in a package with a weekend program in the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park will pay a total of 55 kuna. The ship can accommodate 70 people. “Lonjsko polje Nature Park is continuously working on strengthening the tourist infrastructure and the offer intended for visitors. In recent weeks, the number of domestic guests in Lonjsko polje has been growing, which encourages us to continue to systematically listen to their needs and respond to them with a tourist product that pays great attention to nature conservation. Rivers have great tourist potential here “, pointed out Ivor Stanivuković, director of the Lonjsko polje Nature Park Public Institution. Sailing is also the best introduction to getting to know the Sisak part of Posavina. Namely, tourists, especially those coming from Zagreb, are recommended to continue the trip 30 kilometers further in the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park. The boat Juran and Sofija is owned by the city of Sisak, and it is managed by the Lonjsko polje Nature Park. The ship Juran and Sofija has had the same name from the beginning – the one named after the story of the son of the Croatian ban Tomo Erdödy imprisoned by the Turks and his wife Sofija who is trying to free him. The historical drama of the same name by Ivan Kukuljević Sakcinski, also called the Turks near Sisak, is the first Croatian drama of the Illyrian period, and the story still lives on today thanks to theatrical performances and exhibitions. With prior notice, the ship can sail during the week. For special occasions, it can be rented by companies and organized groups of visitors.
