MONTEBELLO – A robbery suspect who allegedly went on a shopping spree with stolen credit cards was in jail Wednesday, awaiting trial, police said. Montebello police officers, who were conducting surveillance on a suspected drug dealer Saturday, followed the man as he burglarized a local business, taking the business owner’s wallet, said Sgt. Brian Dragoo. The man, whose name was not released, then picked up a male and a female friend and the trio went shopping at two Target stores, using the stolen credit cards, Dragoo said. They racked up more than $1,000 in purchases, he added. Police then arrested all three, Dragoo said. Murder suspects’ hearing delayed WHITTIER – A preliminary hearing that had been scheduled for Wednesday for two teenage brothers charged with murder in the shooting death of a 15-year-old in Pico Rivera was postponed until next month. County worker gets probation, loses job LOS ANGELES – A former manager in the county’s Real Estate Division who withheld information about property she and her husband owned in Whittier and two other cities was sentenced Wednesday to three years’ probation. Fuerth also was required to resign her county job, which she did last month, in connection with her guilty plea to a misdemeanor count of failing to disclose an economic interest in real property. Nine other felony and misdemeanor charges were dismissed Wednesday by Luros as a result of the plea bargain. As a manager of lease acquisitions for the county, Fuerth was required to annually fill out a statement of economic interests and to disclose all residential, commercial or land interests in which she or her family members had an interest of $1,000 or more. Fuerth and her husband owned properties in Hermosa Beach, Long Beach and Whittier that she did not disclose, according to the District Attorney’s Office. If it was his last game I think it was very good he played in front of his fans and he was able to get a nice reception, but as I said we don’t know so I’m not able to comment. He was captain a few times in pre-season when Cahill and Azpi weren’t there. He’s not the first and won’t be the last to miss a penalty. It’s something I think I have some knowledge on and the keeper did quite well.”What can I say about Cesc? Five-hundred games, a player who is unique in his position, he has unbelievable vision and awareness of where his team-mates are on the pitch. He’s one of the few who has the ability to play that ball for the runs behind the defensive line, so precise and with the right timing. I think he’s one of a kind. He’s been fantastic for teams before us and the contribution he’s given to this club and this team has been amazing. Cesc is a top player.”
zoom German liner company Hapag-Lloyd has reorganized its executive board as the company’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Thorsten Haeser steps down.Haeser, who played a major role in the company’s integration of UASC into the company, is leaving the company as of March 31, 2018, on “the most amicable of terms”, the company said in a release. As a result, Hapag-Lloyd’s CEO Rolf Habben Jansen will take over the global sales activities.Joachim Schlotfeldt, who has been a member of the executive committee since 2007, will become a new member of the board as of April 1, 2018. He will take charge of human resources, which was the responsibility of the CEO as labour director, as well as global procurement, previously run by the COO.“The supervisory board firmly believes that the executive board’s new composition will ensure it remains in an excellent position to successfully lead Hapag-Lloyd into the future,” Michael Behrendt, Chairman of the Supervisory of Hapag-Lloyd, said.In addition, the company said the management changes were needed due to the increased size of Hapag-Lloyd. Following the mergers with the container activities of CSAV (2014) and UASC (2017), the transport capacities and number of containers transported at Hapag-Lloyd have more than doubled.Revenue rose by the around 50 pct in the same period, and the number of employees increased by around 70 pct.“The restructuring of the executive board will make it easier to meet the challenges arising from this rapid growth,” Hapag-Lloyd concluded. The German liner ended the year with more than tripled operating result (EBIT), reaching EUR 411 million (USD 502 million) against EUR 126 million reported a year earlier.Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) climbed up to EUR 1.055 billion, against EUR 607 million posted for 2016.The group net result stood at EUR 32.1 million for the year 2017, a major rebound from a net loss of EUR 93.1 million from 2016.Aside from UASC merger, the better financial performance was also ascribed to a positive development of the worldwide container transport volume and a slight recovery of freight rates.“Looking ahead, we will continue to further reduce our debt. In addition to that, we want to capture all possible synergies from the merger with UASC and become even more efficient,” Rolf Habben Jansen said.“ The market environment remains challenging, but as we see some of the fundamentals improving gradually over the upcoming period, we remain cautiously optimistic.”
