first_imgTournament Central | BracketFRISCO, Texas – Eight programs secured their positions in next week’s 2018 Southland Conference Volleyball Tournament after regular-season play wrapped up Saturday.Northwestern State will serve as the host institution with tournament action commencing Friday at Prather Coliseum in Natchitoches, La. Semifinal action is set for Saturday and the championship match is Sunday, Nov. 18.The quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of tournament play will be streamed live on the Southland Conference Digital Network, available at southland.org/live and the league’s apps, available for phones, tablets, Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV and Roku. The championship match will be an exclusive presentation of ESPN+, available via ESPNPlus.com and the ESPN app.Stephen F. Austin closed its conference schedule with a perfect 16-0 record to nab the tournament’s No. 1 seed. SFA cruised to straight set finishes in five of their last seven matches and are currently riding the nation’s longest winning streak at 26-matches. The Ladyjacks 29 match victories this year represent the most in NCAA Division I volleyball. The 29 wins is tied for most in a season in SFA program history.Stephen F. Austin will square off against No. 8-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Postseason play came down to the wire for the Islanders. They clinched the tournament’s eighth seed with a straight set victory on the road over Incarnate Word Saturday afternoon. The Islanders’ Madison Green leads the Southland Conference and ranks 14th nationally with a pair of triple double’s this season. First serve between the Ladyjacks and the Islanders is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday morning.Abilene Christian enters the Southland Conference Tournament as the No. 4 seed after a 10-6 conference record and a 13-15 overall mark. ACU has averaged 2.32 blocks per set for a combined 252.5 blocks throughout the season. The Wildcats will take on No. 5-seeded Houston Baptist.The Huskies concluded conference play at 8-8. HBU led the conference while ranking third in the nation for team kills (1,548), team aces (194) and total team attacks (4,352). Opening serve between Abilene Christian and Houston Baptist will take place at 1:30 p.m. in Friday’s second match of the day.Match three pits No. 3 Sam Houston State against No. 6 seed McNeese in a 4 p.m. serve. SHSU enters the tournament with a 13-3 record in conference action and a 10-1 mark at home this season. The Bearkats’ defense has held strong throughout the season, limiting opponents to a .153 hitting percentage, a feat which ranks ninth nationally. McNeese closed out their conference slate with an 8-8 mark following a three-match sweep of Northwestern State Saturday afternoon to conclude the regular season. Paige Harvell has been a staple at the net for the Cowgirls ranking 19th in the nation with 135 blocks.Central Arkansas will head into Friday’s play as the No. 2 seed, taking on No. 7-seeded and host Northwestern State in the final match at 6:30 p.m. The Sugarbears lead the Southland Conference in team hitting percentage (.247) and assists per set (12.7) while winning their last eight consecutive matches. Northwestern State completed 1,193 kills throughout the season capturing an 8-8 conference record.Following Friday’s play, the winners will advance and compete in a pair of semifinal rounds taking place Saturday, Nov. 17 at noon and 2:30 p.m. The championship will be held Sunday, Nov. 18, with a 3:05 p.m. serve.last_img
